The Music (Wo)Man Speaks/An introduction of sorts.

I feel the need to clarify something before I get into the nitty gritty of my introductory post. The fact that I am contributing for a site whose central theme lies in gaming is kind of amazing considering I know almost nothing about gaming and games in general. As in, I’m pretty sure Super Mario Brothers is a video game, right? And not just a duo of characters named Mario and Luigi who were (supposedly) brothers from Italy, and who I have questioned and debated with others to be closeted lovers. Also, it’s not just a marketing gimmick that’s produced Mario and Luigi costumes that “totally hetero” male friends wear to tag team on girls at Halloween parties, I'm guessing. I still ask people to explain to me the concept of World of Warcraft, and within moments of their attempts to help me understand what I see as an oddly complicated game, I start to drift off thinking about what I want to eat for lunch. It’s not so much that I don’t care, it’s more like I think I care, then I realize, I probably don’t. Really though, gaming is such a large intricate network and community that admittedly, I am just not a part of. It's somewhat intimidating to me, probably because I don't fully "get it". Much like Germans. And that makes me feel like the kid that always gets picked last for his poor eye-hand coordination skills.

While gaming is not exactly my forte, there is something that I do know a thing or two about, which is why I’ve been brought here to drop a bit of my knowledge on you fine feathered readers. As Micah B. so aptly describes in the Meet the Staff section, I am indeed an expert at being an Asian female. But fortunately for you, that’s not what I’ll be discussing here (unless requested by popular demand). While being an Asian female is you know, cool, music is waaaay more interesting and exciting than being that. And in fact, it is what I’ve now chosen to define myself as a person. Yup, that’s right. As the character Rob in High Fidelity so accurately notes “What really matters is what you like, not what you are like…Books, records, films — these things matter. Call me shallow but it’s the fuckin’ truth.” So yes, music is what I use to gauge people the first time we meet so I know which category they fall into (friend, foe, date, someone more suitable for my old maid of a sister, etc). And go figure, a lot of what I enjoy and listen to sounds a helluva lot like the Tetris theme song. While the use of music in games has noticeably changed and relies less on original scores, it is undeniable that gaming and music are worlds that collide in the most harmonious way possible. In fact, there’s an entire genre devoted to 8-bit, computer generated music that’s like, so really awesome. And lucky for you, I’m here to explore and delve into all of this crazy nonsense! I know you’re just as excited as I am, but try not to crap your pants like I did just now (TMI...??).

So despite my lack of gaming knowledge and my seemingly ignorant approach to the whole thing in general, hopefully you’ve found me charming and my honesty refreshing enough to keep with me and continue reading. I’m sure you’re at the edge of your seat waiting for my next long winded literary concoction. And hey, maybe if I go at it enough, I’ll discover that I’m actually just a repressed gamer that hasn’t found her full gaming potential just yet! No, wait…probably not.

Guitar Hero: World Tour Song By Song Review

Well, the 4th edition of the Guitar Hero series is upon us and it's rife with already done hackneyed game functions stolen from Rockband, but hey, it's got cymbals!
I'm not going to bore you with my opinion of how much the sensitivity levels of the drums suck, or how awesome it is that you can trick your girlfriend into playing a video game with you. You can read that shit on some other website that actually cares if you're informed. Micah and KT are here to enterain and, of course, educate!
