Microsoft Proudly Refuses to Stop Investing in Crap

February 9, 2009 by myka

SEATTLE - Microsoft will not be sacrificing new game franchises in the face of a poor performing economy, Gamesindustry.biz reports.

Microsoft believes that "The healthy companies will be the ones that have invested sufficiently during that phase that they've got exciting IP and innovative things happening for when that recovery starts to happen."

For those of you that don't speak "Corporate Bullshit", what that means is that Microsoft makes so much money by producing pretty much every electronic device you use at home that it doesn't have to worry about a few piddling millions of dollars they might lose. (Details after the jump.)

Don't believe it? Let's look at the spectacular line Microsoft has "invested suffciently" in recently.... First is the spectacular Rockband knockoff without any of the cool parts, Lips. Oh but wait, theres more! Lips also syncs up with the Zune! Which would be awesome if anyone owned one.

Some other winners are Scene It, which is based on a board game that uses video...so effectively, it's the same thing as playing the board game.

Last, and arguably least, is You're in the Movies. This game equates to hooking a webcam up to iMovie. Congrats on yet another spectacular innovation.

While we can certainly respect Microsoft for sticking by "original and creative" projects, I just don't see anything lately that's been original or creative coming from their studios. The question that begs to be asked is... why not just fund some indie hits, like Braid?

Recheck your credit card balance -- if you're close to the limit, now is the time to settle up. There are lots of ways to manage debt like shaking trees and selling the apples that fall out. If you didn't understand this piece of advice, it's because you don't play Animal Crossing, and therefore, are not a complete idiot. Congratulations.

Top 7 Makeshift Weapons for Fighting the Undead

Vampires. Mummies. My love life. What do these things have in common? They’re all dead, and the legends of their deeds will be the foundation of nightmares for years to come. We all fear the day when the reanimated corpse of Abraham Lincoln meanders down the street, thirsting for vengeance, brains, and a hat that won’t restrict his ability to enter a parking garage.

We've all been in that situation we hate. In the 9th hour of a Smash Brothers Brawl, or Halo 3 session when Mr. hunger comes knocking on our stomach lining like an angry husband returning from a deadly salmon run to find you sleeping with his wife.

Top 7 Iron Mans

No, we didn’t make a mistake. The title is, in fact, “Top 7 Iron Mans,” not “Iron Men.” We’re counting down the 7 people that have best honored the iron name with great accomplishments and general bad-assery. Some of these may shock you, but rest assured, they are rated by the highest authorities on the subject matter (or any subject matter, as far as we’re concerned): hardcore gamers.
